did not merely swoon only to be revived later. He actually died. The list of witnesses (vv. 5–8) proves the reality of His resurrection. He died and was buried (the proof); He rose and was seen (the proof). Christ’s death and resurrection are the foundations of the gospel of the grace of God. Notice the same twofold emphasis in Romans 4:25: He “was delivered up … and raised …” Everyone who believes that good news is saved (1 Corinthians 15:2).
